# Tutorial: How to add the Context Link custom connector to Claude

This guide walks you through setting up **Context Link** as a custom connector in **Claude**. A custom connector is Claude's way of adding an MCP server, and it only needs to be set up once — after that it works across Claude on the web, the Desktop app, Cowork, and Claude Code. Once connected, you can ask Claude to pull context from your linked sources (Notion, Google Docs, OneDrive, websites, email, Memories) directly in any chat — no copy-pasting required.

### Prerequisites

- A **Context Link** account set up with connections (e.g., Notion, Google Docs).
- **Claude** — either [claude.ai](https://claude.ai/) in your browser or the Claude Desktop application.

### Step 1: Open Connector Settings

1. Open Claude — on the web or in the Desktop app.
2. Click on your profile/chat name and select **Customize** (or open **Settings**).
3. Click **Connectors**.

### Step 2: Add a Custom Connector

1. Click the **\+ Add Custom Connector** button.
2. Fill in the form:
   - **Name**: `Context Link`
   - **URL**: `https://www.context-link.ai/mcp`
3. Under **Authentication**, select **Required when the server asks** — Claude connects without credentials first, then prompts you to sign in when Context Link asks (the first time you use a tool, Step 4 below).
4. For the OAuth client, keep **Use Anthropic's hosted client metadata (Recommended)** selected.
5. Click **Add**.

### Step 3: Grant Permissions

Once added, Claude will display a series of permission prompts. Select **Always allow** for each so the connector can run without re-prompting. You can verify it's active by checking the toggle in the connectors list.

### Step 4: Authenticate Your Account

The first time you use the connector:

1. Start a **New Chat**.
2. Ask Claude to use Context Link, e.g.:  
   > "Ask Context Link whether there is a time limit for pre-orders."
3. A browser tab will open asking you to authenticate. Click **Accept** to link your email address with Claude. This ensures Claude retrieves data scoped to the correct user.

### Step 5: Use Context Link everywhere

Once authenticated, the connector is available across Claude — web, Desktop, Cowork, and Claude Code — and Claude will route relevant queries through Context Link automatically. Answers come back with citations and source links at the bottom of the response, so you can jump straight to the underlying Notion page, Google Doc, or web page.

The connector exposes four tools: `get_context` (pull relevant context into the conversation), `ask_question` (a concise, cited answer from your sources), `save_memory` (save notes or decisions back to Context Link), and `get_memory` (recall something you saved earlier).
